Elephants will travel together and take care of each other and this is what happened when the 7 elephants were killed. Environment and Forests Minister Jairam Ramesh said that he will push to get the trains to slow down and travel at speeds 15 to 20 mph. The train that killed the elephants was traveling 30 mph. Reports were that two baby elephants stuck on the tracks and the others were trying to help when the train came along and hit them. Five died at the scene and two others died the next day. Minister Jairam Ramesh said that there should be watch towers built the warn the engineer in advance at the 44 identified locations known to be where the elephants cross the tracks.
